Located just an hour from Prague, Terezín was used by the Nazis during World War II as both a concentration camp and a propaganda tool, meant to deceive the outside world. The grim reality, however, was a place of immense suffering and tragedy.
Your visit begins at the Terezín Small Fortress, which the Gestapo transformed into a police prison. Here, more than 2,500 prisoners perished from starvation, disease, torture, and execution. As you walk through the barracks, workshops, and dark solitary confinement cells, you’ll feel the heavy presence of history. The nearby cemetery, a place of remembrance for the victims, offers a moment of reflection and tribute.
The tour continues in the Terezín Ghetto Museum, housed in the former school of the Big Fortress, where over 150,000 deportees passed through until the end of the war, with 35,000 lives lost here. The museum preserves chilling artifacts, including drawings created by imprisoned children, which stand as heartbreaking testimonies of resilience and innocence in the face of tragedy.
You’ll also view excerpts from the Nazi propaganda film produced to present Terezín as a “model Jewish settlement.” The contrast between propaganda and reality offers powerful insight into the manipulation and horrors of the Holocaust.
Our final stop is the Terezín Big Fortress, where you’ll explore sites such as the crematorium, the Jewish prayer room, and the surviving barracks. Visiting Terezín is a deeply moving experience. Here’s what to know before your day trip to this historic memorial.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Bring a water bottle and snacks if you’d like. Photography is allowed in most areas, but please be respectful.
Comfort is key on our tours, so we recommend wearing shoes that can handle Prague’s famous cobblestones and dressing for the weather. And don’t forget to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated!
Children are welcome, but please remember that Terezín is a Holocaust memorial site. Many parents choose to bring older children for the educational value, but some exhibits can be emotional. The decision is entirely yours.

You’re welcome to bring snacks, as we don’t usually take a full lunch break during this tour. While there are a few restaurants near the memorial, many guests find they don’t have much appetite after the emotional experience of the visit.
