If you want the season the way a Prague family actually spends it, this private tour takes you where the guidebook stops.
The Prague Christmas markets are free, famous, and about fifteen minutes from wherever you’re staying. You don’t need anyone to help you find Old Town Square in December — you’ll hear it before you see it. What you’ll also find is the busiest square in the city, stalls that repeat each other, and nothing to tell you which of the ornaments were made in Bohemia and which arrived on a truck.
This private tour goes three markets deep. The famous one first, and then, by metro with tickets included, two markets in residential neighborhoods where Prague families do their own Christmas shopping — smaller, quieter, more about handmade gifts than food, and not somewhere you would have thought to go. Your guide brings homemade Czech Christmas cookies, pours you something hot, and tells you which stalls are worth your money.
Because it’s private, you choose the start time, and the walk moves at whatever speed suits your group in the cold — slower with small children, longer at the stalls if you’re buying gifts. Guests describe being taught a carol, hanging a wish angel in a church, and getting the guide’s cookie recipe by email a week later. By then it has stopped being a market tour.

The private version offers a more personal and flexible experience.
The pace can be adjusted to your group, there is more space for questions, and your guide can shape the experience around your interests.
All the stands we visit are 100% owned and run by local Czechs. As we’re in a small private group, we don’t disrupt local life. By taking our guests to off-the-beaten-path locations, we help businesses that would usually not be visited by travelers.
We’ll pick you up in the lobby of your centrally located hotel or apartment. Please let us know where you’re staying when booking.

The Prague Christmas markets are regularly ranked among Europe’s most magical holiday destinations, and with good reason. Picture the city draped in twinkling lights, Old Town squares transformed into festive villages, and the scent of roasted nuts and spiced mulled wine filling the frosty air. On this private journey, you’ll step right into the storybook charm of Czech Christmas, experiencing it at your own pace with a personal guide by your side.
Your guide meets you in your hotel lobby at the time you chose. The first stop is the Old Town Square market — the one on the postcards, under the country’s biggest Christmas tree, with the Astronomical Clock at your back. You’ll have something hot in your hands within a few minutes, and your guide will walk you past the stalls that aren’t worth it to reach the ones that are.
Then we take the metro, tickets included, out to the neighborhood markets. The crowd thins, the stalls change, and the balance shifts from food to handmade gifts and decorations — hand-painted ornaments, wooden toys, beeswax candles, gingerbread. This is where Prague families do their own Christmas shopping, and it’s where the homemade cookies come out.
What else turns up depends on your guide and on the year: a church with paper wish angels waiting to be hung on Christmas Eve, a nativity scene, a carol, a stall run for a local charity. The neighborhood markets close on 24 December; after that we take you to two equally lovely markets inside the historic center instead. At the end we’ll bring you back to your hotel, or leave you at the last market if you’re not finished shopping.

The Prague Christmas markets open in late November and run into early January, and our tours run for the whole season. The neighborhood markets we visit close on 24 December; after that we switch to two equally lovely markets inside the historic center, so the tour works just as well between Christmas and New Year. If you tell us your dates, we’ll confirm exactly what will be open while you’re here.
This tour includes sweet treats and hot drinks, so if you have diabetes, don’t consume alcohol, or follow a gluten-free diet, please let us know in advance. Since this is a private tour, we’ll design the route to fit your preferences. However, we’re unable to host vegan guests, as Czech Christmas cuisine is heavily dairy- and meat-based, and suitable alternatives are very limited.
