From First Bite to Last Sip on a Prague Foodie Tour
A food tour in Prague is not just about stuffing your belly. Wait, what?! No worries, you WILL most certainly stuff your belly… But you’ll also step into the city’s kitchen and peek behind the curtain of our food culture. Along the way, you might stumble across:
- Dishes with surprising, sometimes foreign, origins that became local staples
- Traditions that sound unusual but make perfect sense once you’ve tasted them
- Tiny spots you’d never find without a trustworthy Czech pointing the way
- A new local foodie friend, ready to answer your questions (and fight your fears)
You’ll see how Prague’s food reflects centuries of influence, from the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s refined pastries to the hearty comfort food shaped by the communist era. This is the Prague most visitors never see (or taste), and it’s waiting for you just a few steps from the tourist-packed Old Town Square.

A Bite-by-Bite Journey of Prague Old Town
1. Meet Your Guide
It all starts with a smile and a quick chat to get to know you. We ask about your food preferences, any dietary needs, and what you’re most curious to try. That way, we can adjust the experience to make sure everyone is happy. And if you want a tour fully designed around your tastes, our Private Prague Food Tour is the way to go.
2. Walk from One Bite to Another
We move between stops on foot, wandering through Prague Old Town’s winding streets and hidden courtyards. Between bites, you’ll pass Gothic towers, pastel Baroque façades, and centuries-old passages. The walking isn’t strenuous – it’s just enough to make room for the next course.
3. Learn About Czech Culture Without Realizing It
Our guides are storytellers as much as they are food lovers. You’ll hear about the role beer plays in daily life, the quirks of Czech dining etiquette, and why our dumplings are nothing like the German kind (and even less like the Chinese ones). By the time dessert arrives, you’ll have learned more than you expected, without ever feeling like you were in a classroom.
4. Stuff Your Belly with the Best Czech Food on Earth
This is where it all comes together: stops packed with the highlights of Czech cuisine. By the time dessert arrives, you’ll have worked your way through some of the country’s most beloved dishes, from hearty mains like svíčková and goulash to comfort-food favorites you won’t find in guidebooks.

What You’ll Taste on This Prague Food Tour
Yes, you’re here for the food… but not just any food! On our Prague food tours, we make our way through centuries of Czech cuisine, from the appetizer to the dessert. No two tours are ever quite the same, as each guide chooses their route based on personal favorites and what’s in season. What stays consistent is the wide variety of traditional Czech dishes you’ll taste along the way.
Czech Street Food That Set the Tone
Sometimes we like to kick things off the hearty Czech way with street food favorites that locals swear by. These can be creamy deli salad, juicy roasted sausage, and the ever-popular fried cheese, paired with a cold Czech beer or a refreshing soft drink. When this stop makes it into the tour, it sets the perfect tone: bold flavors, local classics, and plenty of fun right from the start.

Food You’ll Find at Every Czech Party
Party food doesn’t have to be just chips and salsas! Here, it often means chlebíčky, the ever-loved Czech open-faced sandwiches. These colorful, bite-sized creations pile on spreads, cold cuts, eggs, pickles, and garnishes, arranged so neatly you almost don’t want to eat them. Almost.

Czech Main Courses with a Story
The heart of the tour lies in the mains, and you won’t be choosing just one. You’ll get tasting portions of several Czech classics, so there’s plenty of variety without overfilling your plate at any one stop. You’ll get to try Czech classics like svíčková, tender beef in a smooth vegetable cream sauce with a touch of cranberry, served with fluffy bread dumplings, and Czech goulash, rich with paprika and slow-cooked to perfection. Depending on the day and season, you might also sample roast pork with sauerkraut, stuffed dumplings with cabbage, or other local favorites, washed down with generous pours of world-famous Czech beer or homemade lemonade.

A Sweet Finish
No Czech meal feels complete without dessert. Depending on the season, you might enjoy a piece of freshly baked traditional pastry from one of our favorite local bakeries, still warm from the oven, or a scoop of the yummiest ice cream from the best gelato parlor in town. Either way, it’s often accompanied by a final toast to the city, your group, and the shared adventure you’ve just savored together.

Quirky Stories and Tasty Tales from a Prague Foodie
Not all the best parts of a Prague food tour come on a plate – some are tasty little secrets you only learn along the way. Between bites, you might learn why beer is cheaper than water, or the quirky reason locals start with soup before their pint (yes, there’s logic to it). Your guide will reveal the Czech “rules” for beer foam and how ordering the wrong style could raise an eyebrow.
You’ll hear how communist-era shortages shaped Czech cooking, from inventive substitutions to the way certain ingredients were treasured. We’ll share why vegetables often take a backseat to meat and starch, and how that’s changing with modern influences. You’ll learn that tradition has less to do with etiquette and more to do with the ever-clever Czech logic.
Just wait until you hear about some of the stranger dishes in Czech cuisine… the kind that make you pause and say, “Wait, people eat that?” We even wrote about them: check out Would You Dare to Try These 10 Weird Czech Foods? for a taste of the unexpected.

The Secret Ingredient of the Best Prague Food Tour
Anyone can take you to restaurants. But not everyone can say they’ve been recognized for doing it better than anyone else. Our Prague Food Tour has been celebrated with some of the most respected awards in the travel industry. In 2024, we won the prestigious Arival Tour Review Spotlight Award for Best Culinary Experience in Europe, a testament to the quality and authenticity we bring to every tour. We’re also proud to crown the list of the best Prague food tours on TripAdvisor. Besides that, Prague City Adventures is a continuous Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award winner, an honor we’ve been earning as a company year by year.
The recognition doesn’t stop there. We were named Best Food & Culture Tour Operator in Prague by LUX Life Magazine in 2024 and received the Travel & Hospitality Award the same year. These awards aren’t just plaques on the wall; they’re proof that our guests leave impressed, satisfied, and eager to share their experience with the world.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Prague Food Tour
A food tour is always a feast for the senses, but a little preparation goes a long way toward making it unforgettable. Here’s how to get the best out of yours:
Come Hungry (Really Hungry)
Our portions are generous, and there’s a lot to try. Skipping lunch or snacking lightly instead is the smart move here. Your guide will adjust portions based on your appetite, but only you know where the bottom of your belly lies. Pace yourself and start by trying a little bit(e) of everything.
Wear Comfortable Shoes
You won’t be hiking mountains, but Prague’s cobbled streets aren’t high-heel friendly. A comfortable pair of flats or sneakers will keep you focused on the food, not your feet. If you’re on the slower side or need extra assistance, we can easily adapt the pace and route on our Private Prague Food Tour.
Ask Questions (Don’t Choke on the Food, Though)
Our guides love sharing their knowledge. Want to know how a dish is made? Curious about where locals eat on weekends? Just ask, you might walk away with your new favorite restaurant recommendation. We might even share grandma’s best Czech goulash recipe, though that’s pretty rare; you’d have to be really good and ask for seconds…
Take Pictures (and Maybe Also Notes)
You’ll try more dishes than you can remember. That’s why your guide will collect your email at the end and send you a recap of all the delicious stops you enjoyed. Still, snapping a few photos of you and your travel buddies happily tucking into these Czech delicacies is the perfect way to relive the flavors later. And don’t forget, between bites we’ll be wandering through Prague’s picture-perfect Old Town, so your camera will get plenty of action outside the restaurants, too.
Be Open Minded (and Open-Bellied)
You might encounter flavors, textures, or combinations you’ve never tried before, and that’s where the real magic happens. You’d think that there has to be some veggies for something to earn the status of a ‘salad,’ but we’re here to prove you wrong. Some of the best moments on a food tour come from unexpected favorites, as long as you stay open to them.

Small Group or Private: Which Prague Food Tour Is Right for You?
We offer two ways to experience our award-winning Prague Food Tour, each with its own perks.
Small Group Prague Food Tours
Our small groups have a maximum of 10 guests, though the actual group size depends on the season, day of the week, and bookings. You’ll meet your guide at a convenient central meeting point, ready to share the experience with fellow food enthusiasts from around the world. These tours often bring together a fun mix of ages, backgrounds, and perspectives. You might even find yourself making new friends to grab a drink with afterwards or meet up with later in your travels.
The small group tours are perfect for solo travelers, couples, friends, or any adventurous foodie tourist happy to share a table with others.
Private Prague Foodie Tours
If you’d like something tailored just for you, our private tours are the ideal choice. We accommodate groups of any size, from couples to families and teams, and for larger groups, we’ll provide multiple guides.
We’ll pick you up at your accommodation or another central location of your choice, and you can set your own start time. Lunch instead of dinner? A late start after a day trip? No problem. Private tours are ideal for guests with dietary restrictions or multiple allergies, those who walk at a slower pace, families with young children, or groups larger than four (in fact, if you’re more than four people, a private tour can be better value). With the guide dedicated entirely to your group, we can fully adjust the route and menu to suit your tastes and interests.

How to Book Your Prague Food Tour
The easiest way to secure your spot is to book directly on our website using the links provided.
For the small group tour, remember there’s only one departure per day. In high season, tours often sell out, so booking early is wise. If a date looks full, give us a call and we’ll be happy to check if additional availability is possible. During booking, you’ll find a dedicated field for dietary restrictions; please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly. Any other notes or special requests are welcome too, we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
For the private tour, we’ll also ask for your accommodation address (for pickup) and any details that will help us create the best possible experience for you. This might include dietary needs, mobility concerns, ages of children (and whether they’re in strollers), special interests, favorite flavors, or your preferred start time if none of the default options work for you.
All tours must be paid for in advance via our secure online credit card payment system. We cannot accept cash on the day of the tour – unless it’s a tip for your guide, which is always welcome and very much appreciated.
Ready to taste Prague for yourself?
Book your spot on our award-winning Prague Food Tour and let us treat your taste buds, from the first bite to the last sip. You’ll leave with a full belly, a deeper understanding of Czech culture, and maybe even a new favorite dish to dream about when you’re home.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Prague Food Tour
Can I join this tour if I have dietary restrictions?
We can accommodate vegetarians, gluten-free diets, and most minor allergies with advance notice. Your tastings may vary or be more limited, but you’ll still enjoy a full, satisfying experience. We cannot host vegans or guests with full lactose intolerance, as Czech cuisine relies heavily on butter, cream, and animal products.
Will I be full by the end of the tour?
Absolutely – arrive with an appetite! This tour is a complete meal served in courses at multiple stops, not just small snacks. You’ll try plenty of traditional Czech food and drink to take the place of dinner, and most guests finish feeling full (and sometimes ready for a nap!).
What food is Prague famous for?
Prague is known for hearty Czech classics like svíčková (tender beef with a creamy vegetable sauce and bread dumplings), roast pork with sauerkraut, and Czech goulash (our thicker, richer take on this originally Hungarian dish). Oh, and Czech beer! It’s so beloved here that it’s often cheaper than water.
What is the most popular street food in Prague?
For locals, it’s often klobása, a smoky grilled sausage in a bun with mustard, found at markets and festivals. Another favorite, and one of the few vegetarian dishes on the menu, is fried cheese – all Czechs agree this is the best hangover meal. Food stands will often offer langoše, another originally Hungarian treat, but with a specifically rich and garlicky Czech touch.
What time do people eat dinner in Prague?
Czechs tend to dine earlier than many Europeans, usually around 6-7 pm. Restaurants in the centre stay open later for visitors, but if you want to blend in with the locals, book your table before sunset.
Do and don’ts in Prague?
Do try the local beer, venture beyond Old Town, and learn a few Czech phrases (like “Děkuji” for thank you). Don’t block narrow streets for photos, call dumplings “bread,” or expect to pay with euros; Czechs are very proud of their crowns.
What not to miss in Prague?
Of course! A Prague food tour is like sightseeing with snacks, except the “snacks” are full Czech meals, local beer or wine, and desserts that might just ruin all others for you. You’ll skip tourist traps, eat where locals actually go, and learn the stories that make each dish taste even better. It’s the kind of experience you can’t Google… and you’ll leave both full and smiling.
